HERITAGE SIGNIFICANCE

The remnants of the original homestead are part of the local district heritage list. It is excluded from the state and national heritage list. Any changes to the remaining buildings would require further consultation and applications with the local Harvey Shire.

Cook's Park Farm also known as Cook's Cottage was built by James Rodgers in1862 and is one of the oldest farms in the district. The timber-constructed building with clay and whitewash render was situated well back from the Leschenault Estuary to avoid flooding in wet weather. Now standing behind the main residence, the remnants serve as a tangible link to the family's history.

Original owner James Rodgers overcame humble beginnings as a convict to established himself as a prominent family name and made valuable contributions to the development of agriculture in the district, Rodgers and his family grew a wide range of produce, including wheat, rye, potatoes, fruits, oranges, cattle, horses, and a few pigs. He transported most of his potatoes to Perth for sale.
