This picturesque Tavern, set on 4.83 ha (approximately 12.075 acres) was named after the First Governor of Western Australia Governor Hampton and officially opened by him on the 1st May 1863 (over 152 years ago). Steeped in the local history of Greenough and being the only surviving remnants of the Town of Hampton. In 1868 the Arms hosted the district ploughing match. The first sports day at the Hampton Arms was held in 1873 which took the form of a typical English village gathering, with the winners being rewarded with a selection of prizes. In 1876 dancing was a big attraction, with patrons wishing to dance the night away with music from a Jewish harp, to a grand piano or even a full brass band.
