Last Listing description (March 2014)

Gracious old lady seeks younger man with means
In 1934 this gracious home was built for Dick Clarke, son of well-known local Bunbury identity and Mayor George Ephraim Clarke. The foundation stone was laid by Dick's mother, Louisa. Dick was a cabinet maker who was blinded while serving in France in WW I. He, with his wife Irene, lived in the home until 1960 when it was sold. In 1972 the home returned to Dick's family when purchased by his niece, Dorothy and her husband Fred Roberts. On their deaths it passed to her daughter, the current owner.
The double brick and tile house was built by Percy Hough, Bunbury's leading builder of the day.

It has been beautifully maintained, but remains basically unrenovated. The high ceilings; jarrah floors; original lead-lights; stately formal lounge and dining room with views over Bunbury and Koombana Bay; the graceful central hall and elegant entrance foyer all paint a picture of a salubrious way of life from between the wars.
The 4 bedroom home stands on 1863m2 on two lots. Vehicle access to the large circular drive way, double garage and separate workshop is via the private road leading off Cross Street.
Coupled with outstanding views and its proximity to schools, beach and town center, this home will be forever the one by which all other period residences are judged.
