Last Listing description (September 2026)

In the heart of a historic neighbourhood, there stands a captivating residence, whose story began in the early 1900s as home to a prominent pearling identity. As you approach, a grandeur unfolds, with a meticulously renovated Master Pearler residence, that seamlessly marries the charm of yesteryears with the conveniences of today.

The main house, a true masterpiece, beckons with its classic design, featuring three bedrooms and two bathrooms. As you step inside, the open-plan living area reveals itself, adorned with high ceilings and rich hardwood floors that whisper tales of a bygone era. A theatre room offers space for a peaceful unwind, while a sunroom bathes the space in natural light with views of the front garden - this extended alcove would be the ideal whimsical location for poetry writing and artistic journeys. A thoughtfully designed study completes the ensemble, offering a practically located retreat for work or creativity.

The heart of the home, the kitchen, is a nod to the past with its period features, yet bright and practical. A butler's pantry adds a touch of sophistication, ensuring culinary endeavours are as seamless as they are enjoyable.

As you explore further, a pool house emerges, boasting two generously sized bedrooms and a shared ensuite. It's a haven for relaxation and hospitality, a place where guests can retreat to their own sanctuary, and of course, overlooking the pool that blends into the tropical garden surrounds.

Venture to the rear, and you'll discover a caretaker's residence a cozy abode with its own kitchen and bathroom, perfect for an extended family member or an artist seeking solitude.

Outside, the property unfolds like a canvas of greenery, with a sprawling half-acre of manicured gardens and a refreshing pool. Shaded by established trees, the grounds offer a tranquil escape. Carved out parking spaces cater to the adventurer, with ample room for boats and caravans. There is even a bore on the property for a bountiful supply of fresh water to the gardens.

The story concludes with practical elements two sheds for storage, two carports for convenience, and the security of a fully fenced property with an automatic gate at the front. Picket fencing and a large verge adorned with shady trees provide the perfect frame for this idyllic setting.

Historical:
38 Walcott St is known as the Bardwell Residence, and is listed on the Heritage Registry. It boasts a classic pearling home design, Federation Bungalow, as a timber framed structure with a hipped roof and clad with corrugated iron, with a verandah under the main roof.
Beresford Bardwell was a prominent pearling identity in Broome, along with his brother Bernard and sister Phylis. Beresford served in Gallipoli during WW1 and returned to Broome, after several injuries, in 1918. Beresford Bardwell married Majory Missingham, Phyllis married Daniel McDaniel, another prominent pearler, and Bernard married Kathleen Taylor. The family moved to Perth in the 30's and the home was sold to Jim Kennedy, the son of HK Kennedy - Master Pearler, with their family still in Broome today, and still involved in the pearling industry.
