History of Bootenal ConventSt John's Convent, Bootenal was built as a home for two nuns of the Presentation Order. They taught Primary School to the students in the church next door. Piano lessons were given in the front room of the house. The senior of these nuns was Irish Sister Bridgid Kenny (later Mother Bridgid). The land was donated by Owen and Bridget McGuinness, owners of the 100 acre farm from which this land was excised. Owen and Bridget are buried in the cemetery west of the church and convent. The nuns moved out of the convent in 1964 when the "back flats" depopulated as farms amalgamated and became larger. The convent was abandoned from 1964 to 1984. In 1984 the property was purchased, the building restored, verandahs added and a residence was established.
