The current owner has, with passion and obsession, rebuilt the working building of the mine and created the most extraordinary home - one large open plan living area, which opens into the 'person cave' - a space for any hobby including cars, bikes etc. Off this large hobby area are two bedrooms, bathroom/laundry.
Up the stairs and around the crushers is the main bedroom with plenty of room for a living area, a balcony with views over the countryside and an en-suite.

The house has been completely insulated and is warmed with a double sided boiler open fire place.
The Phoenix was the last commercially operating gold mine in Taradale. It is situated on a 17 acre property to the north of the Taradale Township on a rich vein of quartz known as the Hughes Reef from which a reputed 30,000 ounces of gold was extracted.
Whilst the mine shaft has been capped below what is one of the last poppet heads on privately owned land in the central Victorian gold producing region this has been done using steel grating so that the depth of the shaft can be fully appreciated but in safety.
The property also boasts artefacts such as a five head gold stamper, a mining trolley and an original winding wheel the latter two items being ones actually used in the mine when it was in operation.
The property was acquired by the present owner in 1996 and has been the subject of a continuous and sympathetic restoration/ refurbishment. Features such as double insulation to the walls and an additional layer of tin over the roof promote warmth in winter and the zephyr which blows over the brow of the hill on summer evenings contributes to the pleasant micro climate the property enjoys.
There is also a spring fed dam for livestock. Currently there are horses on the property so that the trail riding in the area can be enjoyed.
