TALLAROOK RANGES AND STATE FOREST BACKDROPTraawool Valley - Est 199880 Acres / 32.37 HaThe Traawool Valley Vineyard at 760 Upper Goulburn Road, Tallarook, was established in 1998 on the north slope of the Tallarook Ranges in a position overlooking the Goulburn River Valley. Located at an elevation of approximately 300 meters, the Vineyard is set on a delta of eroded soil material, shed from the steep ridges behind, that have provided decomposed granite, sand rich in feldspars and mica, overlying red clay, originating also from local sedimentary ridges. These soil types impart superior flavours into the grapes.The Traawool Valley Vineyard is planted as five blocks averaging 1,000 vines per acre on the 37 hectare (or 80 acre) site. The varietal mix over about 17 acres is; 8,000 shiraz vines, 5,000 cabernet sauvignon, 2,350 nobilo, 1,000 voigner, with infrastructure to expand to 5,000 vines along with an experimental planting of 200 merlot vines. The right disease resistance American root stocks appropriate to the variety, were also selected and grafted to the vines before they were planted. The vines have been drip irrigated from one of three dams on the property, with the largest about six megalitres filled using the 14.9 megalitre diversion water right and electric pump on the Goulburn River opposite the vineyard.The key lifestyle feature is the four-bedroom homestead of about 28squares, sited to overlook the vineyard and the attractive district vistas. Comprising four bedrooms, a study, two bathrooms including an ensuite with spa bath off the main bedroom, with large living, dining and meals areas. There are verandahs all the way around the building, originally built on a concrete slab with the building accessed by a driveway lined by olive trees that are also productive. Fittings throughout are high quality and in addition to an open fire place, includes ducted reverse cycle air-conditioning, ducted vaccuming, with three phase power installed both to the house, the large machinery shed and pump system.
