The owner quotes: Lochgyle has had a strong history of fertiliser application, so much so that after extensive soil tests in Spring 2014 it was recorded to have Olsen P levels between 45 and 55, Colwell K levels of 155 to 207 Sulphur levels of 14-22.
After returning such high nutrient levels we decided to look at our soil health and utilise a compost regime accompanied with liquid fertiliser supplements.
Our compost was spread at 4-5T ha for the last four years and liquid fertiliser as required depending on the season. We have seen an improvement in herd and soil health and still strong milk production.
