HISTORY
Back in 1891, Mr. Edward James O Connor of Lauriston, along with a committee of locals, purchased a parcel of land on behalf of the Roman Catholic Church so that a church could be erected for the benefit of the people of Lauriston. This was done, and for decades it served the community well, both as a place of worship on Sundays and local school during the week - the wear on the bluestone step of the vestibule a testament to its constant use. The church was decommissioned in the 1960 s, and in 1980 it was offered to the market for sale.
It was at this time that Mrs. Elma Lewis (nee Murray), a descendant of Mr. Edward O Connor, and her husband Mr. Reginald Lewis saw that the property was available and, knowing the family connection, made the decision then and there that they would purchase the property and bring it back into the family. Since that time it has served as a much-loved family holiday destination, the site of great fun and relaxation.
