Last Listing description (June 2017)

Perched on a hill, this stunning Hamlyn Heights home, designed by award-winning architect, Albert William Ross, and constructed in the early 1960s, is offered for sale for the first time.
This is a rare opportunity for an owner occupier, or investor, to acquire a 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom, brick home which incorporates timeless design and quality construction.
Visitors to the home pass the private master bedroom and ensuite, then enter a sun-filled lounge, with north-facing floor to ceiling windows, offering stunning views of Corio Bay.

The architect was ahead of his time in creating zoned living areas and a bedroom wing containing three bedrooms and separate shower, toilet, and bathroom. There is also a separate bedroom, overlooking the garden, with its own entrance, ensuite and robe.
Practicality and sleek minimalism combine to give the kitchen a chic, ultra-modern appeal, featuring all the mod cons, ample bench space and light, adjoining a large, airy laundry.
A circular staircase leads to a spacious downstairs rumpus room and impressive wine cellar. The rear decking opens to a beautiful landscaped garden, supported by a fully automated watering system.
This architectural gem is located close to the Melbourne ring road, public transport and local colleges, and a short drive to dining and shopping precincts.
An ideal purchase for investors looking to make a smart buy or those wanting to live in a design dream, this property offers the very best of style, modern living and convenience.
Don't let this opportunity pass!
ARCHITECT: Albert W Ross

In the 1960 s post war Australia a new wave of architects bought modernism architecture to suburban homes. Modernism was about open planning and simplicity, with walls opened to the light with large floor-to-ceiling windows. Award winning architect Albert William Ross created a modernist Geelong family home in 1964 that has stood the test of time.
If you were to map the development of postwar Melbourne architecture your pen would run across the names Grounds, Romberg and Boyd very early on. Albert W Ross was an inaugural employee the firm Grounds, Romberg and Boyd founded in 1953. The three founding partners designed iconic Australian buildings including the Sydney Myer Music Bowl, (shell design) The National Gallery of Victoria and Arts Centre, the Australian Academy of Science (Canberra), Ormond College buildings along with classical European apartments and contemporary family homes. It was here Ross practiced his skills in design, form and function for 9 years working on significant architectural projects.
1962 was a major year for Ross; he was runner up in the 1962 design competition for the Reserve Bank of Australia in Canberra and he became a partner of Hipwell, Weigh and Ross a firm whose designs were bold in structure, and embodied an idea of modern living at their core.
12 Edgecombe St is a lasting tribute to that ethos. Built in 1964 the home has distinctive floor to ceiling windows that jut out over the land to maximize bay views. Ross bold ideas for the home were founded on open space and flexibility. An innovative sliding wall divider separates the entryway and two main living areas, converting the space from open plan to private areas. Little details like a built in ironing board and breadboard create a sleek, minimalist laundry and kitchen. With custom built shelves and wardrobes the fittings made from Australian hardwood timber are both durable and stylish. The original mosaic tiles and light fittings reflect the era but it is the timeless design that makes this house a modernist architectural gem.
