History
Built in 1906 and owned by the Villani family famous for catering at Flemington racecourse, the tuckpointed red-brick residence was originally named Salerno.
It was renamed Rosemont when purchased in 1937 by the Findlay family, which operated horse lorries, and later trucks, on and off the shipping wharfs.
They retained the home until 1980, when it was sold to the neighbouring McInerney family. It was then used as the Flemington Community Health Centre from 1983 to 1994 (including an award-winning extension), before the Findlay family's grandson made good on his vow to repurchase the property and respectfully restored and maintained Rosemont in line with its heritage. He also added the self-contained dwelling at the rear.
The versatile 36.5-square property has been used in recent years as professional suites, including as headquarters for Mr Findlay's production company, which has made use of the side drive (accessed from Hill Street) to the oversized double garage.
But it has recently been returned to the grand family home it was always destined to be.
