'LANSDOWNE' 1882 - A SHORT HISTORY
The original owner of 'Lansdowne' was Dr. Henry Michael O'Hara, ?a medical practitioner born in County Cork Ireland on September 29th, 1853. The Brighton to which Dr. O'Hara came was still a remote place, with a population of only 3,000. His personality, ability and involvement in the local affairs soon put young O'Hara on the map. When he fell in with the Grainger's, he did not take much convincing to 'build a house worthy of his position'. Land was available almost everywhere in Brighton, and O'Hara selected a large block opposite his friends the Grainger's.
Grainger soon had plans drawn up for a splendid residence?which would also serve as a surgery and waiting room. Building ?went ahead, and in early 1882 the property was ready to be occupied.
