In 1854, Catherine Hair (Nee Luaton) arrived in Australia aboard the “Hilton” and in approximately 1916 moved into 51 Benson Street, with her son & Daughter, and duly named it the “Hilton.” And today, the current owners have it standing as strong and pristine as the day it was built.
When arriving, you are introduced to the 3 bedroom home, at the front, by a modest pathway leading to the Bull Nosed Veranda from a heritage style picket fence. Once inside, you will be amazed by its condition, which can only be described as an absolute tribute to it’s time.
While wandering through the Victorian home you will notice the inbuilt wardrobes in each of the good sized bedrooms, 12 foot Murray Pine timber ceilings, wide hallway and open fire places, one of which is in the master bedroom and the other in the Formal Lounge which is complemented by a hand-made mantle. The original timber flooring is kept in immaculate condition and rare to it’s circa was built up on solid bush stumps rather than bare dirt.
Keeping true to its era, the kitchen is located at the rear of the house with the original
cooking fire place still a feature and the spacious dinning area.
The bathroom features classic brass exposed piping into an authentic Claw Foot Bath Tub, dado lined wall tiling and solid timber topped and brass fitted vanity along with a second toilet.
Into the back yard you have the benefit of having your own studio for just about any need in a great sized area.
Location is ideal, only 3 mins drive from the main centre of town and in the quiet sought after area of Benalla. Autumn is certainly highlighted with the giant, well established plane trees burning their leaves into a warm orange and the sun beaming down Benson Street to set the era of the early 1900’s.
