This modernist style home is a creative blend of the existing 1950's property with an elaborate brand new extension. Jane Millar Architects has designed and overseen the project to completion and the result is a truly unique and special coastal property. Providing 4 bedrooms, including master with ensuite and second bathroom, separate toilets, new entry and stair connecting the two distinct living areas to the north-facing deck, stone terrace, and garden areas. A double carport, laundry and store are located under the living and dining addition at lower ground level to minimise visual impact as well as to provide greater opportunities for landscaping. A refurbished kitchen sits in the driving seat of this home, with views to the north facing deck and rear garden, and up to the heavily treed Anglesea hill to the south. Glimpses of the sea are captured and framed by windows in the main living area. A strong sense of "place" is the result.

The external form, materials, colours and finishes take their cue from the existing house, with angled rooflines offset by strapped cement sheet and timber cladding in natural colours derived from the landscape. Local sandstone features were restored and paving reinstated which add that element of texture and earthiness to the home. Faade articulation is created through massing and contrasting building elements, with pops of colour used to provide a playful reference to 50's art and architecture.

Interior finishes combine to create a fresh warmth, with the original 50's features enhanced by the new additions and modernised with care and respect. Timber and chunky wool carpeted flooring are offset by terrazzo-style tiled finishes in the wet areas and entry. Original lighting, and deco style cornices are the backdrop to the crisp calm finishes of the additions. Together, the interiors imbue a sense of the relaxed coastal environment.
