St George's Anglican Church in the hamlet of Parattah, is a historic building with a rich heritage to the Southern Midlands district. St George's was the second church built in the township with the foundation stone was laid on 6 February 1903, and the church was completed in early 1904. It was dedicated in late September of that year by John Edward Mercer, the Bishop of Tasmania.
Constructed on land by Mr. William Burbury, a member of the district, and is situated on the main street (Tunnack Road) of Parattah, approximately a 400m from the railway station . This heritage listed building was dsigned by Alexander North and built by Richard Pennicott, an Oatlands cabinet maker renowned for his meticulous attention to detail. The substantial Federation carpenter gothic-styled weatherboard structure; lays on a sandstone base and was considered an ornament to the township at the time of its opening with decorative timber detailing and prominent spire on the hipped roof.
Services at St George's Anglican Church ceased in the 1990s, and the building was sold in 2004. Obtained by the current owner in 2008, the property was being beautifully restored and converted into an open plan one-bedroom dwelling. The sanctuary is now a kitchenette with a Stanley combustion oven leading into sacristy which is now bathroom/laundry room with a reverse cycle air conditioner unit in the room.
