Tasmanias oldest known commercial vineyard was established by Jean Miguet in 1956 at La Province (known today as Providence) near Lalla, is 6 km as the crow flies to the East. Grapes were also grown experimentally from the mid 1800s at Windermere/Gravelly Beach (12 kms from Dalen) with Pipers Brook and Dalrymple vineyards located 20kms away to the north.
Dalen is sited within a private setting (no through road) a 20 minute drive from the northern suburbs (University, Maritime College, secondary schools) of Launceston. Lilydale, which has the local Primary and High school, is only a 10-minute bus ride away.
The three bedroom Dalen homestead went through a major renovation upgrade in 2012/13 featuring spacious open plan living and dining area, double glazing, modern heating and cooling systems, a 5kw solar roof panel unit, solar hot water, insulation and cooks kitchen with granite bench tops and AEG appliances throughout.

A large 6 megalitre irrigation dam is located at the confluence of three streams (Barretts Creek runs permanent) and two gulleys thus capitalising on the catchment high in the hills to the south. Ave rainfall as recorded over last six years is 950mm.
The Dalen acreage is mainly pasture dispersed by creeks and a small rain forest growing mature man ferns, blackwood and eucalyptus trees. It is sheltered by old growth forested hills in two directions. As many as 30 cattle have been raised here very easily and profitably by the vendor.
