This is a truly exciting and unique opportunity to acquire one of the earliest surviving local homesteads dating back to approximately 1855, situated on a large allotment of approx. 1280m2.
Steeped in local history this land was originally purchased in 1851 by John Hector, founder of The Savings Bank of South Australia (now commonly known as Bank SA) and formed part of a 40 Acre allotment. This land sold to a Mr E.H Cheney in 1852, and then to Mr John Flavell in1853. By April 1854, the council assessment book recorded Mr Flavell as owning a 40 Acre property described as House, Garden & Land, where he resided until his death in 1865. The land was slowly divided up by subsequent owners over the years to it?s present allotment, with some of the original fruit trees still existing on the property today.

The property also offers two unique outbuildings, a former smokehouse used for smoking foods, now used as a cellar, and a converted brick rainwater tank ?The Round Room?, now used as a home office/ guest bedroom. These surviving features of the original homestead are rarely seen in todays suburbs and are also of key significant heritage value.
A statement from the Tea Tree Gully Heritage Survey ? Phase 2 (1999) details the following:
STATEMENT OF HERITAGE VALUE
This is one of the earliest houses in the Tea Tree Gully area, and is a significant surviving example of pug construction. The smokehouse is also a significant surviving example of a building now rarely found in the suburbs, and the converted tank is of historical interest.
The house was gradually extended and restored during the 80?s to it?s present 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom state and has been lovingly maintained and continually upgraded over this period, including re-roofing of the main residence and outbuildings and upgrades to the kitchen & wet areas all undertaken somewhere around 2007 - 2009.
Some of the homes many features include :
4 Bedrooms, Master with built-in-robes and ensuite
Ducted Evaporative Air-conditioning
Formal Lounge with open fireplace
Family Room with combustion heater
Updated kitchen with walk-in pantry, Dishwasher & Casual meals area
Lock up iron garage plus large carport
