Last Listing description (June 2022)

20 Hectare Aquaculture Leases/Oyster Farms

All offers considered & potential to sell individual leases.
Over 700,000 oysters currently stocked.

One of the largest oyster aquaculture holdings in the state, primed for further expansion is now on the market. This holding of 20 hectares, with close proximity to the markets in Adelaide, has been held in the same family for 21 years. This holding comprises 10 hectares at Stansbury and 10 hectares at Port Vincent. Both oyster farms are the closest in the state to their respective boat ramps for ease and speed of access; they are situated on sand spits with excellent workability height at low to mid/low tides on most tides.

20 hectares in total and licensed to have a maximum carrying capacity limited to 3,000m of longline per hectare. This equates to 3,000 baskets per hectare or 60,000 baskets if the sites were fully developed. Currently the stocking densities for mature oysters 50mm-70mm are 60 per basket equating to a possible number of 5,400,000. Stocking densities for smaller oysters are much higher at 30mm - 40mm where we stock at 250 per basket equating to a possible number of 22,500,000 if all of the sites were fully developed. The maximum carrying capacity in reality is the total of a combination of varying sizes to manage a constant output of mature oysters, spat at 3mm to 4mm in spat trays occupy only 250 metres of longline per million, at 30mm-40mm oysters occupy 4,000m of longline per million and at 50-70mm oysters occupy 16,667m of longline per million.
