A Bit of History

Upon completion in 1894, the property was sold to Charles Fry, a senior public servant. Two years later it was sold to Peter Mayoh Miller who had been the manager of Anlaby Station, near Kapunda. Mr Miller passed away in 1908 and the property was passed on to his son John Clow Miller. In 1909 John Clow Miller sold the property to Henry Reginald Sewell, son of one of Payneham's most successful businessmen, Henry Sewell, who established Sewell's Nursery. Henry Reginald Sewell resided at the property until 1914, when he moved to Rostrevor House (now Rostrevor College). The property was transferred to Dr. Gertude Halley in June, 1914, she established her home and consulting rooms. Dr. Halley resided there until her death in October, 1939. The property was later sold to Harold Hutchinson, an engineer, and was held by the Hutchinson family until 1973.
