This home has a very interesting past. There was initial suggestions that the home was built in 1836, however the hundred of Goolwa was not surveyed until 1839 so this could not be the case. Since then In 1966 the home was given the name 'Hindmarsh Hunting Lodge' to attempt to sell the home making people believe it belonged to Governor Hindmarsh. Governor Hindmarsh had left SA prior to buildings in Goolwa, so he could not have owned the home. Since then the home has been owned by the Higgins Family, Cant Family, Lewis Family and there are stories that it was the original greenkeeper's shed for the golf course. A 1949 aerial shot shows the home with not much more than Beach Road and Barrage Road. Some of Goolwa's older generation can recall stopping there for water on the way to the beach. According to the Goolwa National Trust, the fire place is in the style of the 1850's.
