Nestled Amongst Nature With Views to the Foothills
Words from the vendor.....
"This house is amazing. It has been a once in a lifetime experience to own this home. The site has views through the trees over the surrounding suburbs and to the sea on clear days. Local and city fireworks can be seen when they are held. We share the surrounding area with parrots, koalas, possums and blue tongues lizards. The trees are majestic, the clean air and smell of eucalyptus wonderful. The windows are large and we watch birds in the trees, not cages. The rooms are generous with acoustic ceilings great for music lovers or film buffs. Wide doors and position of the home on the block, provide disability access. The noise reduction is great for multi generation families, as is the multi car garage. Because the house floor is a suspended concrete span there are no supporting columns. It takes six vehicles easily with space adjacent to take the family bikes, helmets, camping gear and kayaks. Another large space has been used for table tennis or gym, or sometimes for messy kids parties. There is also a dumb waiter to take groceries from the garage directly to the kitchen. No leaving kids alone while you traverse the stairs with goods.
This house has served our family well for 20 years. Even our children's children have grown. They want us to holiday with them, not them with us. We don't need a pool, space for multiple cars, the billiard room or the bedrooms. We will however, miss the generous cellar (sorry, we are taking the contents!)
The neighbours are a mix of young families, retirees. It is quiet and friendly. In the morning you see walkers to the golf course and bike riders going by.
The house was originally owner built by Mr John Keightley. He stated he built it with his heart, not his head. His perfectionism shows in the workmanship of the building. It is double brick with a Wunderlich tiled roof. The brickwork is pointed perfectly and the joinery the work of a craftsman. We just love the minimalist nature and honesty of mid century architecture and we have tried to keep the house true to its era. We have replaced like for like where possible. For example, pure wool carpets for pure wool. The pool had solar heating added and was tiled 4 years ago. The en suite updated 18 years ago, kitchen improved with a new oven and Brandt induction cook top, benches widened and replaced with granite.
Temp control:
Although the whole house is underfloor heated, we added gas heaters in the living rooms for ambience. There are 2 split level air conditioners; in the main bedroom and in the living area. Overall this is a very well controlled, temperate home.
Outdoors there is an in ground pool with lighting, a spa, waterfall and gas BBQ. The tropical plants surrounding the pool are watered by an overhead sprinkler system. The gardens are low maintenance with native plants on a manual sprinkler system.
