1900's Meets 2014 With Style!!

It's been sixteen long years of passion, ideas, artistic influence and common sense that has finally produced this amazing Adelaide Hills hideaway. It's current owners have worked tirelessly, retaining all the history that hides behind these walls of what once was a tiny stone cottage, home to "Walsh's Store", way back in 1954 and the "Flying Saucer Tea Rooms".

To venture further back in time, in 1914 the Cheeseman's built the original shop/residence and chose the name "Grassmere" for the post office, although the name Bradbury was eventually chosen. The post office/general store supplied many dairy farms in the area. Later proprietors have included Harry Smith (1929) and Ethel Scotland (1944).

There's so much History here that only a few will know and remember, but let's reflect now on what the current owners have created in this past sixteen years. From the moment you enter the stone drive, facing immaculate stone work that continues throughout the property, you feel that sense of relief and calm that you are now home.

The owners modernised the property to make it a comfortable family home whilst endeavouring to maintain the 'soul' of the home with the aim of creating a beautiful living environment that they have shared and enjoyed over the past one and half decades.

The house has been re-roofed, re-wired and re-plumbed, the use of Bio paints throughout the inside and pure wool carpets have been laid in bedrooms two and three. The kitchen and bathroom feature underfloor heating and there is a reverse cycle airconditioner in the large living/dining room complementing the open fireplace. The property is very much energy efficient having 1kw of solar panels, solar hot water and has been very well insulated. A new Septek recycled waste water system has been installed and no maintenance contracts are required. Rainwater supplies the house, so no SA Water bills!

There is an array of wildlife. Mr & Mrs Magoo are a pair of native parrots that have been nesting in the same spot outside one of the bedrooms for at least 16 years (currently have chicks in their nesting box), ample blue wrens, eastern spine bills, red-breasted robins, regularly kookaburras, parrots, black cockatoos and have our own tribe of resident magpies. On occasions the owners have seen a pair of wedge tail eagles soaring above the house. Koala's and kangaroos abound in the bush block ( the site of the old pottery factory where remnants of the kiln remain to this day) across the road and the front veranda has been home to a group of skinks (much bigger than the other standard garden variety skinks - which also abound - but smaller than blue tongues), and recently an echidna was spotted nearby.

This is something not to be missed, so be amongst the first to inspect this superb creation. I'm certain you won't be disappointed. If you've enjoyed the photographs then you'll love it in real life.
