Heritage listed in 2003 for architectural, cultural and historical significance 'Oak Lodge' is coming onto the market for the first time in nearly 20 years.
Originally built by prominent Toowoomba architect firm James Marks and son in 1890, 'Oak Lodge' is a substantial, imposing, picturesquely articulated and finely detailed timber home located on a corner 1800m2 block in a prominent position with strong streetscape appeal. Identified in the 1995 Toowoomba Residential Area Heritage study as 'a place of special consideration', the street precinct where it is located has been included the list of places and areas valued by the community.
The home still retains beautiful cedar woodwork, three timber framed fire places, 13 foot high ceilings featuring solid, uniquely large timber cornices. The formal living room features a fireplace, bay window with window seat and horizontal wall panels that extend its entire length. The rooms feature timber wainscoting and deep cornices, architraves and skirting boards all with timber mouldings. Two front bay windows have timber panelled ceiling recesses. Just inside the front door is an impressive timber portal reminiscent of a Greek temple, with classical entablature, rectangular pillars and pediment.
