The family behind the name Bunworth
The Bunworths were one of the early merchant and business families to settle in Gympie. Charles Campion Bunworth born in Cork Ireland 1845 and his wife Mary Ann formerly Wright born in Ipswich Queensland 1850 established substantial business interests and properties in Gympie from the 1870 onwards, including several stores and businesses in Mary Street .
They raised a family of eight daughters and one son Edwin (Ted) Campion Bunworth. On Charles Bunworth death, in 1895 the family businesses were carried on by his surviving children in partnership, one of the more prominent of these businesses which traded in Gympie for more than 60 years well into the nineteen fifties was Bunworth and Co, aerated soft drinks and cordial manufacturers. Situated in Barter Street Gympie.
Ted Bunworth 1888 to 1961 was involved in running Bunworth and Co and his sister Dora from the turn of the 20th century. Ted was a well-known Gympie identity not only in business but also in community and sports activities.

Ted had died in Gympie in January 1961 and is buried in the family Grave at Gympie cemetery.
Developers David Bannister and his wife Suzanne. Suzanne Bannister being the only child of Marie Bunworth, she and her husband David wanted to link the new development to a piece of Gympie history, and therefore named It Bunworth Park in honour of her family's long entrepreneurial tradition
