In 2017, The Koumala Hotel was voted one of the best pubs in Queensland by the Courier Mail. Over the last five years, the iconic tourist attraction has maintained its award-winning, genuine Aussie charm and will make a solid investment for any budding publican with an average turn over of *$1,287,638 p/annum
The hotel is located on the Bruce Highway, a mere 20-minute drive south of Sarina and 45 minutes south of Mackay. It services a wide variety of local and tourist clientele: from hungry diners searching for a hearty meal to those needing somewhere to lay their heads.
The charming Queenslander-style, two-storey hotel has all the fixings you'd expect in a country pub and then some. It has multiple dining areas, including an airconditioned, country-themed dining room, an undercover beer garden and an outdoor 'smoking friendly' lounge area. These areas are serviced by a large commercial kitchen, complete with brand-new stainless-steel benchtops, two cold rooms and numerous storerooms.
For those settling in for an afternoon of enjoyment there is a separate pool room and of course, our infamous bar area. There are currently no pokies on-site; however, there is more than enough room for them. For our attendee's convenience, we also have a courtesy bus.
Upstairs are 12 air-conditioned accommodation rooms, seven of which have private verandas. Our overnight guests have access to their own breakfast bar on the first floor, laundry, shared lounge area and multiple toilets and bathrooms.
The hotel is fitted with security cameras and a brand-new POS system. And the main building has solar panels making the day-to-day operations environmentally friendly and cost-effective.
With the managers office being conveniently located directly behind the main bar - there is also an additional office space in the large three bay shed out the back. There is also a secondary, two-bay shed, chook run and dog run on the property.
Koumala is a community rich in Aussie character. As such the hotel's clientele ranges from cattle, cane or hobby farmers, retirees and tourists, or fisherman and locals from Sarina, Carmila, Ilbilbie or other close communities.
The township of Koumala is proud of its history as is exhibited by our stoic war memorial. Koumala has a post office, caravan park and, a corner store which doubles as the service station. We have an active outdoorsy community who love to fish, compete in equestrian competitions and explore the numerous national parks of the Mackay and Whitsunday region. We have a small primary school and children of secondary age are catered for via the bus service which runs to Sarina's high schools.
