Last Listing description (November 2025)

This is your rare opportunity to become the 3rd owner of Keppel Sands' beloved and iconic Savoy. More than just a building, The Savoy is a piece of living history, ready for its next exciting chapter. Will you move in and create a magnificent family home? Will you launch a unique business venture? Perhaps a vibrant art gallery, a boutique event space, or something entirely new.

The next chapter of The Savoy could be yours to make. Here is the Savoys story so far

Built to last in 1945 by Roy Savage, The Savoy was originally a bustling dance hall and movie theatre, designed to stand the test of time and elements. Its incredible construction details are a testament to its enduring quality:

Robust Foundations: Featuring 14-inch roof trusses ingeniously repurposed from Rockhampton's Wool Scours, originally imported from Russia.
Unwavering Support: Supported by 18-foot narrow-leafed ironbark posts that extend an impressive 12 feet below ground, anchored in concrete.
Legendary Dance Floor: The stunning floor, installed by a dance floor specialist, is separate from the main walls and crafted from beautiful Spotted Gum and Crows' Ash, and is supported by over 150 posts. The light-coloured Crows Ash timber still reveals where seats once lined up for picture shows.
Cyclone-Proof Design: Purpose-built to be cyclone resistant, allowing wind to flow through rather than demolish the building a design that has certainly proven its effectiveness.
In 2001, local artist Terry Sykes purchased The Savoy. Over the last 20+ years, he meticulously restored it to its former glory, using materials appropriate to its heritage, with thoughtful upgrades along the way. Notably, after Tropical Cyclone Marcia in 2015, the roof was damaged and the opportunity to replace it arose, and was completed using traditional methods wherever possible, ensuring its integrity for decades to come.

Step Inside Your Next Grand Adventure:

Currently set up as it was "back in the day," with the picture screen, stage and dancefloor occupying most of the space. The Savoy offers a unique blend of historical charm and versatile living/business space. You'll be immediately struck by a grand feeling upon entering, bathed in natural light and surrounded by warm, rich timbers. It features two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, a laundry, and a comfortable deck out the back providing immediate liveability. With its spacious layout, the building is suitable for large gatherings, making it ideal for events or community use.

A Lifestyle of Coastal Charm & Endless Possibilities:

Zoned "Township", this property truly is suitable for anyone seeking a unique lifestyle.
