Wundajilla Forest Nature Refuge is a large 157 acre parcel of land, approximately 146 acres of rainforest & 11 acres of grass land on deep basaltic soils with some forest regrowth.
Neighbouring blocks are also nature refuges, totalling 600 ha of remnant forest, which have been re-connected via newly established corridors to the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage site.
The nature refuge forms part of the Mabi Rainforest wildlife corridor and is a mega-diverse remnant upland cloudy tropical rainforest community at 800 880 m altitude (Complex notophyll vine forest on cloudy wet basalt uplands and highlands), essential habitat for the endangered southern cassowary.
Vegetation on the lot provides habitat for numerous rare and threatened plants and animals and several Wet Tropics endemic species. Home to Lumholtz's Tree Kangaroos, six species of possum including the rare Lemuroid, Herbert River and Green ringtail possums, and rich bird life including Golden Bowerbird, Victoria's Riflebird, and many others.
The three permanent spring fed creeks with numerous small waterfalls are a delight & the view onto Bellenden Ker mountain range from the grassy upper section would make a great house site.
A solid 8 x 4 m timber hut near a permanent spring-fed creek is used as a weekend getaway.
A guided tour through the magnificent Wundajilla Forest Nature Refuge can be arranged with Elders Exclusively Listed Agent Shellie Nightingale by phoning 0429 966 038.
