The project is estimated to cost $1.4 billion and has a planned life of 30 years.

Greenvale Training Area is being established under the Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative (ASMTI). Defence is committed to maximising economic benefits for communities and opportunities for local industry in North Queensland across the life of the ASMTI. Works on this have just commenced, with several houses already rented to the military in town.

Development at Greenvale Training Area will include an Urban Operations Live-fire facility, camp accommodation and supporting infrastructure, enabling infrastructure such as roads, fencing, firebreaks, entry points and storage.

In addition, Gold Road and Superior Resources are mining for gold and rare earth minerals in the area.
