CONCEPT:

The Mountain Bike Park will be comprised of a 100km network of single direction mountain bike trail spanning from Eungella to Finch Hatton in the Pioneer Valley.

The 27 trails will navigate through Australia's longest stretch of lush subtropical rainforest of the Eungella National Park and Crediton State Forest and will provide visitors with over three days of world-class riding experiences.

The proposed network features beginner family-friendly, intermediate/36km wilderness and shuttle-accessible gravity trails and a pump track. Both Eungella and Finch Hatton will act as trail towns, the key service hubs for the trails, and will offer starting/ finishing points and critical rider services including accommodation and eateries, equipment hire, shuttle services and supporting infrastructure.

Capable of hosting world-class events, the Mountain Bike Park will consist of a trail network built to international standards, infrastructure such as trail heads, car parking, toiletries and recreation facilities. The construction and supporting infrastructure is estimated to cost between $8.8 million and $11.6 million.

When fully operational, the Mountain Bike Park is estimated to generate:

* an additional 31,000 annual visitors, including 5,000 international riders
* additional $18m annual economic benefit in the Mackay region
* additional 110 FTE jobs for the Mackay region
* significant construction and ongoing job opportunities in ancillary businesses such as accommodation, hospitality, transportation services, tours and tuition
* improved national and international awareness of Finch Hatton, Eungella and the Pioneer Valley as a tourism destination
* opportunity to capture a market segment of one of the fastest growing sports in the world

Finch Hatton and the Pioneer Valley is located some 70 klms from Mackay.

Mackay is one of Queensland's most accessible regional destinations by air, road or rail. Affordable and frequent air services into Mackay Airport with Qantas and Virgin airlines enhance the appeal as a business and leisure destination. With the Bruce Highway running directly through Mackay this provides for excellent road connections to all of Queensland.
