Last Listing description (April 2023)

This property is offered for sale for the second time in its 93 year life.
It was constructed in 1930 by Harry Oakhill Williams, a member of one of Ipswich's oldest families known for their stonemasonry & building skills.

Constructed of cavity brick throughout - a rarity in this location. He built the home for him and his family from a design he got from Melbourne.

He built two near identical properties after this style - the Bennett Street property for himself and the second in Thorn Street. They are the only example of that layout and design in Ipswich and probably, the only ones of their type in Queensland.

Harry, with his wife and two daughters lived there for the rest of his life. His elder daughter Isabel (and her husband) continued to live there after Harry's death. Isabel became a leading figure in Ipswich's business and artistic community. Remarkably, she had lived in the Bennett Street property continuously for over 83 years.

This is truly a character property not simply because of its distinctive, period architecture and style but also because of its remarkable, historical links to Ipswich and to one of its oldest families. The Williams family are known for building some of Ipswich's most uniquely designed homes such as, “Almondsbury House” Cir. 1883, “Dougleen” in Thorn Street & also the Stone House in Moore.

The current owners have taken Harry's amazing home and have tastefully given it the creature comforts we look for today, such as a covered entertainment area and landscaped gardens, just to name a few.
