She spoke fondly of her "little village of nine or 10 houses and a general store, all delectably perched on a lake shore above a pink and white sandstone cliff." In 1962, she co-founded the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland and became a leading voice in the creation of the Cooloola National Park, ensuring the protection of the landscapes that surrounded her beloved cottage.
