One of Alice Springs' finest Heritage Listed properties
- Constructed circa 1940 - Land area 1,840 square metres - Zoned Tourist Commercial - Suitable for a number of commercial uses subject to the National Trust Heritage Management Plan The residence at 86 Hartley Street was identified in the 1994 Conservation Management Plan for the Alice Springs Heritage Precinct as one of the 'most intact externally of the Burnett houses' in Alice Springs. Conservation works following the completion of the Conservation Management Plan in 1994 have contributed further to the preservation of the fabric and to the heritage significance of the place. This residence is one of the few from the late 1930/1940 period that retains the detailing of the perimeter verandah. This detail includes flywire fixed to vertical timber framing, internal canvas roll-blinds and metal weatherboard profile cladding fixed to lightweight timber frame stud-walls around the base of the verandah. Much of the original wall cladding has been retained inducing weatherboard gable and lining corrugated galvanised iron infill cladding. The original short-length corrugated galvanised iron roof sheeting and roof plumbing appears largely intact with rolled ridge capping and barge capping. A solar hot wast heater has been installed on the north facing roof. Internally the residence is relatively intact with the exception of the bathroom which has been significantly altered, the addition of new cupboards in the kitchen and passage, and the addition of some timber floor boards which have been replaced in areas of the house, such as the kitchen. The original built-in kitchen table and benches remain, as does the fireplace, although a combustion heater has been installed in the hearth. The kitchen is fitted with a wood burning cast-iron range which may be the original range although the surrounding tiles appear as a later addition. Much of the original joinery has been retained, including the doors opening from the internal rooms onto the verandah, timber trims, skirtings and panelled ceilings an
