The Purlewaugh locality is recognised as a premier agricultural region supporting an annual rainfall of 625 millimetres per annum (25 inches). The rainfall is spread evenly throughout the year although the summer months are the predominant rainfall months.

The property ranges in elevation from 480 to 580 metres above sea level comprising of gently sloping to undulating mixed basalt cultivation and grazing country. The soil types comprise of a heavy black, chocolate brown and red basalt soil profile with some lighter intrusions suitable for summer and winter grain production, annual fodder cropping and grazing pursuits. The property has a double frontage to Saltwater Creek and a number of unnamed waterways.

The property is fully contoured for soil erosion control with the majority of the arable areas cleared for cultivation. The basalt grazing areas are located in the northern section of the property and along creeks and waterways, providing fertile grazing areas with the ability to further develop into either improved pasture or fodder cropping arable areas. The main timber species comprises of white box and kurrajong.
