In 1820 Henry Colden Antill took part in an excursion to the newly-discovered land south of the Cowpastures as far as Lake George. On July 9th, 1822 Henry Antill close friend of Governor Lachlan Macquarie was granted 2000 acres in what is now the Picton precinct. In 1825 he moved from Moorebank NSW to his estate in Picton which he named Jarvisfield in honour of Lachlan Macquarie s first wife Jane Jarvis who died of tuberculosis in Macao in1796 at the age of 24 only three years after marrying Lachlan. In 1829 he became resident magistrate and superintendent of police for the district at a salary of 150.
