MORE INFO on "Mithem" ~ Mongarlowe ~ Wildlife Refuge
After reading the story about "Mithem" given to me from the family, I couldn't wait to visit the property. Solvig Baas Becking was well known for her weaving and teaching others her skills. This is some of Solvigs story. Solvig built her home on the property where she lived from 1975. The surrounding landscape inspired some of her most outstanding woven floor rugs. The house was designed by architect Edward John Scollay. Solvig & John, life partners at the time, built the house together with the help of Solvigs children. Mithem was constructed using local timber from Monga saw mill and fence palings lined the external walls. Over all the effect is a wonderful bush home set into an equally impressive landscape...
For the complete story on "Mithem", i have a handout I can forward to you. I would be delighted to show you any time to view the house and surrounding bushland to get a better appreciation of Solvigs life work.
