For the last eighteen years, the beautiful Laguna Earth House has operated as a permaculture property and teaching centre. The earth buildings are designed with passive heating and cooling principles for four season comfort without the need for excessive additional heating or cooling. The straw-bale keeps the house wonderfully cool in summer and warm in winter. The surrounding deciduous trees provide deep shade in summer while allowing the winter sun to heat the oiled earthen floors. The organic gardens include wicking beds, beehives, covered orchards and vegetable gardens, and over 30 species of fruit and nut trees. With 3 acres of valley floor, the property has been home to pigs, goats, ducks and chickens. The remaining 40 acres is spectacular native bush with carpets of rock orchids and grass trees, caves and ledges, and copious numbers of kangaroos, possums, wombats, koalas, lyre birds, yellow-tail black cockatoos and many other bird species the Valley is known for.
