Originally a Californian bungalow built in 1919, the house was extended in the 1950s with the addition of a back north-facing sunroom and self-contained flat with its own front door. Later a wooden deck was added providing a significant outdoor entertaining area that overlooks a large garden on a gently sloping block. Today the house contains 4 bedrooms (incl. the flat), livingroom, dining room, sunroom, kitchen, main bathroom, en-suite bathroom (both modern) and laundry. Outside are: double carport, single garage (useful as a storeroom) connected to a workshop with 3-phase power. There is also a former darkroom now a self-contained laboratory and/or private study. The house is on sandstone foundations and of double brick throughout.
The kitchen, dated but functional with renovated Glulam benches and rustic wooden cupboards contains a modern 5 burner stainless steel stove and dishwasher. The rangehood works but needs replacing, The kitchen and sunroom feature polished wooden floors. There are two built-ins only, one in the hallway and in one of the minor bedrooms.
Heating is provided by slow-combustion stove in the livingroom, a flued gas heater in the sunroom and a reverse-cycle a/c in the flat. The 3.1-m ceilings are insulated throughout making it 6-7 degrees cooler inside in summer. Access to the attic is via pull-down steps. Two small programmed exhaust fans keep the underfloor dry and mould free.

There are extensive gardens front and back. At the back are citrus trees: large productive grapefruit, likewise orange as well as smaller lime and lemon. A healthy poplar gum and a productive macadamia as well as a lilli-pilli, pine tree and a chinese elm as well as numerous decorative shrubs including a crab-apple. A 2000-litre tank collects rain water which can be used to fill the ornamental pond.
The house is 650 m from Gordon shops and station providing excellent access to the many schools up and down the north-shore line.
