The house was built in 1984 and is lined both internally and externally with western red cedar with some sandstock brick walls. For beach lovers the house is just a short trip to Dudley Beach which is also in a nature reserve and unpatrolled but has a good wave when there is a southerly. Redhead Beach is patrolled and extends allthe way down to Swansea providing lots of spots to surf or sunbake and its only 10 minutes drive away. For cyclists or walkers it's just a short hop, 2.5km, to the magical Fernleigh track which runs from Adamstown in Newcastle 27 km to Murrays Beach in Lake Macquarie. This is along an old rail line where much of the natural vegetation still exists so its a nature trip that runs through wetlands and dry sclerophyll forests making it almost unique for a city. There are even plans for a cycleway to connect Dudley to the Fernleigh track but so far only a draft plan.
