Jane and Chris had purchased the 'worst house/best street' scenario - a less attractive home in need of some serious love and attention, but in a fabulous location. It was somewhere for them to live while they built another ongoing and lengthy project in the Inner North. It was also a great investment, a solid home, a good size block and just a hop, skip and a jump to the Ainslie shops.
Soon Jane and Chris's excitement was sparked as they started to consider all the possibilities the home could become, and it wasn't long before it seemed like a good idea to turn those ideas into a reality. Jane and I started chatting...

There were two major considerations -
Firstly, what is it that makes a building worth keeping? Especially in a current climate where it is all too easy to knock it down, and sometimes difficult to find the beauty in an ex-government style envelope.
And secondly, what does the modern family look for in a home in 2017? What does a city dwelling, urban existing person, value the most?
This is obviously going to be different for each individual and we all value different elements in a home, however it was decided that there were key elements that were 'non negotiables' - the kitchen, two living areas and a connectedness to the outdoors.
It is always so exciting to work collaboratively with clients, listen to their vision, understand their hopes and desires and watch their ideas shape into a reality. The continued dialogue with Jane and Chris throughout the journey of the renovation, has been so worthwhile and a thought provoking experience.
As a result, 4 Davenport Street is a modern re-model to an outdated Ainslie residence. It is now relevant, attractive, intimate and functional!
You'll love it. Just like I do each time I visit and reflect on how the ideas and vision have come to life. I love the generous entry, two separate accommodation wings, a large main bedroom and stylish en suite, and loads of storage... so much storage in this home! A cleverly integrated study in what was a small dark bedroom, now offers a quiet, reflective space where one can watch the world go by. Two open and light filled living areas that connect with the back garden, with green lawn, it is a delightful and safe place for kids to play.
Life has taken a turn, as it does, with Jane and Chris expecting their first child, they have decided to sell their Davenport Street house.
