GAYDON'S BUILDINGS - A STORIED PAST

Originally established by Thomas Gaydon in 1894, this property was the home of the Isis Pharmacy – a cornerstone of Childers’ early community life. After the devastating fire of 1902, the building was rebuilt in stunning masonry design under renowned architect F. H. Faircloth.
Over the decades, it has served as a pharmacy, dental surgery, optometry practice, and even photographic studio, with Thomas Gaydon himself becoming one of the most respected and multi-skilled professionals in the region.
The pharmacy operated continuously until 1987 and now forms the basis of the Childers Pharmaceutical Museum – one of Australia’s few such museums preserving a complete collection in situ.
The Dental Surgery is in fact the oldest continuing running Dental Surgery in Australia.
